Strawberry Yogurt Recipe or The Best 5 Minute Healthy Dessert

If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen my 4 day hunt for local strawberries (it’s still there in profile in case you are missing some action in your life). It was truly for the sole purpose of making this strawberry yogurt, and I would lie if I said not for eating straight up. I feel bad baking fresh local berries.

This is an ultimate treat my mom used to make for me during those few weeks in June when strawberries were in season. In Ukraine, we didn’t have strawberries from California all year round, so I literally ate mom’s concoction after dinner every-single-night. She called it “stock up your body with vitamins for winter” process.

The only difference from mine is that she used sour cream because we didn’t have yogurt. However, Ukrainian sour cream was nothing like American one loaded with additives and preservatives. It was world’s creamiest and most natural sour cream from nearby grandma’s farm. Food in Europe is and tastes so much better!

Here in Canada, I use organic Greek yogurt and maple syrup. You can use cane sugar or honey (which I do not like the taste of specifically in this dessert). My kids love it. We eat strawberry yogurt year round, even in winter months frozen strawberries work like a charm. Here is the thing – you need the juice of strawberries, so naturally juicy and sweet strawberries are the best. Local strawberries, not “cardboard” texture like. You get it.

This is strawberry fluff meets frozen yogurt but so much easier and healthier. Whenever I feel like creamy and decadent sweet treat, I make my mom’s concoction and a wave of childhood memories comes back.

Make it, you will be blown away!!! Also try my strawberry smoothie recipe, so good!

How to Make Strawberry Yogurt like My Mom Made for Me

  1. Place strawberries in a glass or serving dish and cut using kitchen shears until mushy. You can also use a food processor if making multiples (don’t over process into complete mush) or mash berries with a muddler. Strawberry Yogurt Recipe or The Best 5 Minute Healthy DessertStrawberry Yogurt Recipe or The Best 5 Minute Healthy Dessert
  2. Add maple syrup and mix well.Strawberry Yogurt Recipe or The Best 5 Minute Healthy Dessert

Strawberry Yogurt Recipe

Healthy Strawberry Yogurt Recipe or quick and easy dessert my mom used to make for me with only 3 ingredients. Strawberry fluff meets frozen yogurt but SO much better for you! Prep Time: 5 minutes Servings: 1 serving Calories: 182kcal Author: Olena Osipov

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups hulled ripe strawberries fresh or frozen
  • 1-2 tbsp maple syrup honey or cane sugar
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt plain
  • Whipped cream optional

Instructions

  • Place strawberries in a glass or serving dish and cut using kitchen shears until mushy. You can also use a food processor if making multiples (don’t over process into complete mush) or mash berries with a muddler.
  • Add maple syrup and mix well. Add Greek yogurt and stir gently to combine.
  • Serve immediately. You can adjust sweetness to taste, top with whipped cream, cacao nibs or chocolate chips. I like to keep this strawberry yogurt simple as good quality strawberries are SO good!

Notes

  • It’s best to use local strawberries in season because they are the sweetest and juiciest. “Cardboard” texture like from the grocery store are not good, you need the juices. Frozen strawberries work very well too, just thaw them for 15-20 minutes first.
  • Sweetener is a matter of personal taste preference. I used maple syrup.
  • Whipped cream is more for an appeal factor, you really don’t need it. Looks pretty though.:)
